A LETTER FROM THE BOARD

To Our Valued Club Members ~

Thank you all for another successful summer season at the Club. This one, of course, was extra special – 125 years of continual member support for a place that is integral to the identity of our unique community. A gathering place in all aspects: traditional family vacations, weddings, parties, family and friend dinners, lunch at the Low Tide Grill, morning coffee on the porch while reading daily news or a good summer read, taking in the views of the Big Beach and Seguin. Hopefully each of you were able to partake in at least one of these activities so that looking back on Summer 2022 the Club will be foremost in your memories.

The highlight of the summer was our 125th Year Celebration of the founding of the Club, held on August 6th. With many members “coming as they were” in 1897, the evening started off with a barber-shop quartet welcoming celebrants, a delicious picnic dinner, a la 1897, which allowed for outside dining in consideration of COVID, and “dancing in the street” with festive outdoor lighting illuminating the talented club member Liz Vaughan and her fantastic band “Do I Do”. True to the Club’s mission to be a community resource, the dance portion was open to all,

The Board especially wants to thank both the contributors to the Club’s Preservation Fund as well as our Sustaining Members. These two categories of contributing members are emphatically important in the maintenance of the Club.  Tax deductible contributions to the Preservation Fund go toward the maintenance of the historical aspects of the building. Our Sustaining Members, who contribute beyond the obligatory annual dues, help with our operating expenses and building maintenance not covered by the Preservation Fund’s 501(c)3 guidelines. Without this support, the Club would be in dire straits, indeed.

Last, but not anywhere near, least ~ we bid farewell to our wonderful general manager, Bob Kennedy. Bob, as he will detail in his letter below, has been a stalwart face of the Club for the past eight years. He has juggled many duties under sometimes difficult circumstances, all the while with a smile on his face, kindness to all our members, and a guiding hand to our staff. A search committee is in place for a new manager and Bob has graciously volunteered to be involved – to ensure we find a compatible person for the Club, its members, and its staff. Also, Bob promises he will not be a stranger to our community. He will be around a bit next summer – to see us through our large events and to spend some time on the other side of the manager’s door. We salute you, Bob!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy year until we see you again next season.

Sincerely,
Martie and Sumner
