Speaker – Michael Lowenthal, Place Envy: In Search of Belonging
Thu, August 20 @ 5:00 pm
Belonging isn’t always something we inherit. It’s something we search for and, hopefully, find. Author Michael Lowenthal will read from and discuss his new essay collection, Place Envy, which traces a lifelong search for identity, queer lineage, and connection across cultures, histories, and the self. Through journeys that span continents and communities, Lowenthal explores what it means to feel rooted—or unmoored—and how storytelling can bring us closer to truth.
Michael Lowenthal is the author of the novels The Same Embrace, Avoidance, Charity Girl, and The Paternity Test and of the short story collection Sex with Strangers.
His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Ploughshares, and many other publications.
His stories have been widely anthologized in such volumes as Lost Tribe: Jewish Fiction from the Edge and Best New American Voices.
