Speaker – Carl Little, Art Critic, Freelance Writer, and Poet
Carl Little will discuss his latest publication, Art of Penobscot Bay, written in collaboration with his brother, David Little. Well-known stewards of Maine art, they have selected art and artists, from history and today, that celebrate the myriad of inlets, islands, coves, and peninsulas—the “nooks corners” of the region. Carl has written extensively about New England art, especially artists with deep connections to Maine.
Speaker – Jeff Hutchinson, Underwater Photographer
Jeff, a SPC member, volunteers for a Singapore nonprofit, Marine Stewards ReefX. He will share his work with the organization which collects data for Marine Stewards’ contribution to a collection of Singapore’s marine biodiversity. Jeff will also share his photography of marine life in the Singapore area. Jeff resides during the summer in Topsham, Maine.
Speaker – Eric Chown, Bowdoin College Professor of Digital & Computational Studies – AI and the Common Good: The Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity
As the Sarah and James Bowdoin Professor of Digital and Computational Studies, Eric's research spans artificial intelligence, cognitive science and robotics. He was awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Grant for his work on spatial reasoning. Later he led Bowdoin’s RoboCup team, the Northern Bites, to a world championship in the Standard Platform League. More recently he co-authored a book with Fernando Nascimento on metaphors and technology, called Meaningful Technology: How Digital Metaphors Change the Way We Think and Live. Bowdoin [...]
