SUMMARY:Artist - Jillian Herrigel
DESCRIPTION:Celebration Opens Sunday 4pm with Reception \nI paint slightly off-key and outside the lines — on purpose. I grew up exploring the coastal villages of England and later fell for the rugged coast of Maine\, and that shoreline finds its way into everything I make. I’m not interested in copying what I see. I use unexpected color\, shape\, and line to reinterpret landscapes\, seascapes\, buildings\, and animals — a little like Billie Holiday bending a melody. My paintings are a celebration of color\, curiosity\, and the joyful imperfection of the world. \n

SUMMARY:Artist - Joanne Thompson
DESCRIPTION:Celebration Opens Sunday 4pm with Reception \nJoanne Thompson has been fascinated by watercolor painting since she was a young adult. Her great grandmother was a watercolor painter\, and Joanne grew up surrounded by her paintings. While living in London in the 1990’s\, Joanne studied at various art schools with several instructors. Joanne has exhibited her paintings in New Hampshire\, Maine and Massachusetts\, as well as in several juried shows. \n“After painting them for years\, I continue to be intrigued with flowers. I find watercolor to be the perfect medium because it allows you to capture the luminescence\, softness and texture of the flower. \nJoanne lives with her husband in Phippsburg in an historic brick house built in 1774. \nThis will be Joanne’s first time exhibiting at the Club. Her son\, Nicholas Roose\, is a member and her cousin Dar and Barbara Gillett are or were also members. Long ago\, her grandfather\, Charles Fiske\, was a member as well.

SUMMARY:Artist - Molly O'Day
DESCRIPTION:Celebration Opens Sunday 4pm with Reception \nMy art has no rhyme or reason when I begin; oftentimes a conversation or a memory will trigger a spark to paint\, and more often I just feel like mixing acrylics. I love chunking colors on canvas and then overthinking the little lineS while reminding myself to not take it too seriously… or anything else for that matter! \nAll members of the Club know Molly as an integral part of the successful management of the Club. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Lisa Borders\, Last Night at the Disco

SUMMARY:Speaker - Michael Lowenthal\, Place Envy: In Search of Belonging
DESCRIPTION:Belonging isn’t always something we inherit. It’s something we search for and\, hopefully\, find. Author Michael Lowenthal will read from and discuss his new essay collection\, Place Envy\, which traces a lifelong search for identity\, queer lineage\, and connection across cultures\, histories\, and the self. Through journeys that span continents and communities\, Lowenthal explores what it means to feel rooted—or unmoored—and how storytelling can bring us closer to truth. \n  \n\nMichael Lowenthal is the author of the novels The Same Embrace\, Avoidance\, Charity Girl\, and The Paternity Test and of the short story collection Sex with Strangers. \nHis writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine\, The Boston Globe\, The Washington Post\, Ploughshares\, and many other publications. \nHis stories have been widely anthologized in such volumes as Lost Tribe: Jewish Fiction from the Edge and Best New American Voices. \nLearn more about Michael on his website www.michaellowenthal.com
