He has performed with The Jimmy Giuffre Quartet and The Moody Blues. He has appeared at the Umbria Jazz Festival and on National Public Radio. Neil is Professor Emeritus of Piano at Berklee College of Music\, Boston. \nAlto Saxophonist Cercie Miller Saxophonist\, composer and bandleader Cercie Miller has been called a “versatile stylist with a penchant for melody as well as a take-no-prisoners streak that shows itself on her slashing alto solos” (Boston Herald). She has appeared widely in clubs\, concert halls and festivals including Blues Alley\, the Boston Globe Jazz Festival\, Kansas Jazz Society\, Portsmouth Jazz Festival and many others. The list of her many well-known collaborators includes Tiger Okoski\, Herb Pomeroy\, Fred Hersch\, Deborah Henson-Conant\, and Dominique Eade. The Cercie Miller Quartet have released two CDS: “Dedication” (Stash Records) and “Blue Vistas” (Jazz Project). Recently retired as Associate Ear Training Professor at Berklee College\, Cercie is the Director of Jazz and World Music at Wellesley College\, and Professor of Ear Training at Berklee Online.

SUMMARY:Speaker - Eric Chown\, AI and the Common Good: The Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity
DESCRIPTION:As the Sarah and James Bowdoin Professor of Digital and Computational Studies\, Eric’s research spans artificial intelligence\, cognitive science and robotics. He was awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Grant for his work on spatial reasoning. Later he led Bowdoin’s RoboCup team\, the Northern Bites\, to a world championship in the Standard Platform League. More recently he co-authored a book with Fernando Nascimento on metaphors and technology\, called Meaningful Technology: How Digital Metaphors Change the Way We Think and Live. \nBowdoin College has received the largest donation in its history for a new initiative to research artificial intelligence. Reed Hastings\, Bowdoin alum and cofounder of Netflix\, has donated $50 million to the College. The Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity will focus on the implications of AI\, both positive and negative. The gift will be used to help shape the ethical trajectory of the technology\, of which Eric will be deeply involved.

SUMMARY:Art - Abbie Sewall & Stefan Pastuhov
DESCRIPTION:Stefan:\n \nStefan Pastuhov grew up in Harvard\, Massachusetts. He graduated from the American School in Paris and returned to the U.S.\, where he received his BFA from Tufts University and the Boston School Museum School of Fine Arts. Stefan moved to Maine in 1984.  Stefan is a plein-air painter who loves the outdoors and paints on location year-round. It’s the beauty of changing light and seasons that appeal to him. He counts among his strongest influences: John Singer Sargent\, Emile Gruppe\, Edgar Paine\, and Aldro T. Hibbard. He is a founding member of the plein-air painters of New England. His work has been featured on the covers of the L. L. Bean catalogues.  Images of Stefan’s paintings can be found on his website pastuhov.com\, and can be contacted at pastuhov@tidewater.net. Stefan’s art is shown at Blue Hill Bay Gallery in Blue Hill\, Maine\, Bay View Gallery in Brunswick\, Maine\, The Vermont Artisan Gallery in Brattleboro\, Vermont and The Berkeley Gallery in Warrenton\,Virginia. \n  \nAbbie:\nL I M I N A L S P A C E S \nI am drawn to visual narratives that enhance our perceived reality by\ncreating a space – or a pause – in the viewer’s awareness of time and\nexperience. In Buddhism\, “pausing” or “the pause” refers to a deliberate\nmoment of stillness and mindful presence.\nThe images in this show are from a body of work I call “Liminal Spaces\,”\nreferring to a still-time place of contemplation between past and present; or\nfrom a position that occupies both sides of a boundary or threshold. This is\nthe place I have occupied since age fifteen when the life and photographs\nof my great-great grandmother\, Emma D. Sewall (1836-1919)\, presented a\nthreshold between her past and the life I have chosen to live. If you believe\nin reincarnation\, ‘I am Emma in blue jeans.’ \nSome of these works stand alone as one image\, while others are intuitively\nstacked one top of the other.
